Welcome
to The Cooperative Preschool at St. Michael’s!
We are a cooperative preschool located in St. Michael’s Episcopal Cathedral, just north of the State Capitol on 8th and State streets.
Ours was the very first preschool in Boise, started 40 years ago when a need for good, early childhood education was identified. We are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and have maintained continuous accreditation since 1997.
Although we are housed in the classrooms at St. Michael’s Episcopal Cathedral our curriculum is not faith-based. The Cooperative Preschool embraces diversity of all kinds and welcomes people of all faiths and creeds.

Michaels has been providing Ada County families with affordable and quality
education for their toddlers and preschoolers. Recognized as the first
established preschool in Boise, it was started by volunteers
at St. Michael’s Episcopal Cathedral who desired to start a preschool program
as part of the church’s Community Outreach Program. Since then, the school has
maintained a tradition of excellence and accreditation by the
National Association for the Education of Young Children
(NAEYC). Although
currently housed in the classrooms at St. Michael's Episcopal
Cathedral, the Preschool's curriculum is not faith-based and
embraces diversity of all kinds and welcomes people of all faiths
and creeds.

The Cooperative Concept
Our preschool is based on parents taking an active role in their child's social and educational development. Cooperative preschools provide a safe, developmentally appropriate learning environment for children to grow socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually.
The Cooperative Preschool provides a low student/adult ratio by having two parent helpers assist our teachers each day. Each family assists one to two times a month, depending on which class you are in. Helping in the classroom is a great way to know the other children and experience your child’s education first hand.
Parental involvement is the key to a successful cooperative preschool. To learn more about what your responsibilities would be, see our Parents section. Our parent participation is what helps keep registration fees and monthly tuition comparatively low.
